F1: Red Bull Racing Shows Us “The Life Of A Bolt”

Formula 1 is the pinnacle of automotive design and technology. Nothing is left to chance. Nothing. Sure we get all excited about the engines, the wings and other aero components. But the attention to detail goes well beyond the hours on the dyno or in the windtunnel. Everything gets designed and tested and retested and redesigned until the end result is as perfect as a team can manage. Red Bull was kind enough to share a short video on what has to be the most boring part of any race car. Boring but without them the cars would literally fall apart. The bolts. It is incredibly interesting to see just how much effort goes into the design of a single bolt. You would think this is something that would out sourced or even purchased from a 3rd party vendor. Not at Red Bull Racing. Everything must be perfect and others can not be trusted. So they design and manufacture their own bolts.

His father was a gear head and passed on the tradition through owning such classics as a '66 Mustang and a '59 Corvette all while taking him to various race tracks in the area.
