Kia Uses Tecmo Bowl’s Most Dominant Player In New, Totally Awesome Ad.

Growing up there was one video game I loved the most. More than any other Tecmo Bowl was the game of choice. I spent hours on end playing that game. It was the first Football game licensed by the NFL and that was awesome. I played as much as I could whenever I could. Between whatever sport was in season I was at my Nintendo playing it. Hell I still play it on emulators it is just simple, classic video game fun.

Those of you familiar with Tecmo Bowl will know one thing above all others, Bo Jackson is unstoppable in that game. I don’t mean he’s a beast and really good, no. I mean if you use him correctly he can not physically be stopped. Bo Jackson was a freak of nature. He was strong as an ox and as fast as “spooked deer” (his words not mine) He Was a 5 tool baseball player and was one of the best Running Backs in football playing it as his “hobby”. With all that it was unfair to play as the Raiders in the game.

What the hell does all of this have to do with ShiftingLanes? This is a car culture website after all not a vintage video game blog. Well Kia just released the greatest car commercial in the history of commercials. Kia has come an enormously long way since they first introduced their cheap plasticy crap-mobiles. They are undeniably good cars now. Granted they don’t make a model that interests me but they’re good cars never the less. But they have combined Bo Jackson and Tecmo Bowl and their cars into what is pure automotive marketing genius. People my age are just starting families. So we need a bigger family vehicle, we also remember Tecmo Bowl, so why not combine the two into the greatest commercials ever conceived!

And for those of you who need a little more Boz in your life!
