Video: Mark Webber Takes To The Streets Of London In His 919 Hybrid LMP1 Car

Porsche is quite proud of its hybrid technology. Their 919 Hybrid LMP1 car won Le Mans and both the Driver’s and Constructor’s WEC Championships last year and is well on its way to repeating that feat this season. Former F1 driver, current WEC Champion and Porsche LMP1 Driver Mark Webber took to the streets of London in his 919 Hybrid as part of a Porsche hybrid showcase. Joining him was Porsche’s Panamera 4 E-Hybrid.

“It was an incredible experience, and the first time we’ve ever had the 919 race car on the streets,” said Webber. “We stopped a lot of traffic but they were pretty excited to see the car as well.It was tricky. Visibility’s really difficult in that car so I couldn’t see a lot of the curbs. I was really excited to bring the car into London today, so it was also a highlight for myself. It went really smooth, weather was great, so it ticked a big box.”

The current crop of LMP1 cars can be quite tricky to drive at slow, everyday speeds. So you could excuse Webber for doing this:

Here is some more footage, minus the stalling.
