The C7 made a big splash back in 2013 with its totally redesigned look and a completely new platform. The Corvette Stingray exhibits sharp angular expressions with functional vents and bulges, resembling a purposely built tool; a tool to shred corners, blaze straightaways, eat tires, and leave behind its hoity toity european competitors in the dust.
The C7 Z06 is the Corvette Stingray’s clone experiment gone haywire. Long gone is the paltry 460 HP. Goodbye, natural aspiration! Any lingering discussions regarding that blasphemous angular taillights is childlike banter at this point. Once you see the Z06 in person you will stand in awe. You suddenly become very aware of the hairs on the back of your neck. Your meandering thoughts wither. You simply admire.
This is the ALPHA car. A 6.2 Liter Supercharged V8 has been shoehorned into the engine bay, a different beast than the last generation’s LS9 platform, and it is estimated to make at least 625 HP and 635 lb-ft of torque. The fenders have bulged and stretched out and unchecked carbon fiber growth juts out from various portions of the car. And where the rubber meets the road, the wider track and fatter tires actually make the whole package look slimmer and more sculpted.
The Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is a treat to the eyes and the mind, and if you’re lucky enough to be driving or be driven in one maybe you’ll be able to comment on how it treats the body and the soul. Until it becomes available (early 2015) all we can do is gawk.
