Top Gear Will Not Replace Chris Evans. Other Presenters To Get More Air Time.

According to a BBC spokesperson is reporting this morning that after Chris Evans’ departure from Top gear after only 1 season, the show will not seek a replacement for him. This doesn’t mean there won’t be a replacement at some point, but in the near future the Evans’ casting slot won’t be filled.

As for now, the remaining presenters will get more air time as a result and the next series is due to start filming in September. Here’s what was reported by the Evening Standard.

Chris Evans will not be replaced as Top Gear host after he sensationally quit today amid a collapse in the show’s ratings, the BBC has confirmed.

Host Evans, 50, announced his resignation on Twitter on Monday afternoon, saying he “gave it my best shot but sometimes that’s not enough”.

His shock exit came just hours after it was revealed police were investigating a claim he sexually assaulted a woman in the 1990s.

Amid speculation over who could pick up the reins, a BBC spokeswoman said on Monday night the next series of Top Gear was unlikely to see any changes to the current line-up.

She said: “We have no immediate plans to replace Chris Evans and do not expect to do so going forward.

“Series 24 starts filming in September.”

Apparently, LeBlanc will take a more prominent role, but that’s also uncertain this early in this story’s cycle.

Top Gear suffered its worst ratings of the series during last night’s finale, falling by nearly 50 per cent since the opening episode.

Sunday’s overnight figures were the lowest of any episode in the new series at an average of 1.9m viewers – lower than any Jeremy Clarkson episode.

His departure means Matt LeBlanc, Rory Reid, Chris Harris, Sabine Schmitz and Eddie Jordan will front the next series of the show, with ex-Friends star LeBlanc shaping up to take a more prominent role.

There are still so many unanswered questions here, like was this a firing due to the sexual assault allegations? Did this have to do with Evans’ personality and it clashing with the producers? Are they trying to avoid another Jeremy Clarkson fracas and just nipped this in the bud before anything else happened? Did Evans really wear the same outfit during all tapings or were they all just filmed the same day?

As soon as we know more, we’ll have the stories for you, but until then you can rejoice in the fact that we’re going to see more of the presenters that truly deserve it (Reid and Harris).
