Wow, Jenson. This is cold.
Jenson Button is one of our favotire F1 drivers. Well used to be. Not because of what he said, but he quite literally just retired form the sport after an excellent career. During that time he was featured on Top Gear a few times with Clarkson, Hammond, and May. Jeremy had some really great conversations with him.
Like this one.
But apparently Jenson has grown a bit tired of the boys’, and other car show’s, shenanigans as he said it’s “bath watching material” and “they’re not racing drivers.
Ouch.
The Formula One driver spoke exclusively to GQ at a Michael Kors event last week, where he slammed the new Amazon Prime show.”I was watching it in the bar before I came here. It’s definitely bath-watching material,” he said. “I’ve seen it all before. They are driving the same cars as they do in all those car shows. It’s really good fun, but there is definitely an area that is missing with a lot of car shows I find, a niche.”
The 36-year-old continued: “Basically none of them are racing drivers, they don’t really understand… It’s all about sliding and tyre smoke isn’t it?
I mean clearly it’s not, but that is entertaining. TGT, and originally Top Gear, were a real car show for about 3 seasons until it turned more entertainment than anything else. We all knew, and know, that. Jenson clearly still watches, but his words might give some fans a sour taste in their mouths.
Either way, we wish him the best of luck next season when he makes the transition from F1 to rally cross.
Do you agree with Jenson? Let’s hear it in the comments.
