Hot on the heels of the announcement of the W. Chump & Sons production company’s new Amazon Prime Show titled The Grand Tour, BBC’s Top Gear did not want to stay out of the public’s eye and also announced the official start date of the rebooted show. According to TopGear.com the show will return to BBC on Sunday May 29th. For the United States viewers, the show will premier on BBC America on May 30thApparently the BBC has been really busy as filming has taken place in nine countries over the span of eight months, while the six new presenters have totaled up over 7,500 miles of driving.
After the hour-long show there will also be an extra show, titled Extra Gear, that will cover “exclusive new footage, interviews and specially recorded films.” This show will also be available to U.S. viewers on BBC America. There has been a lot of negative criticism revolving around the show well before it has aired. The rapidly approaching first episode will either fan the flames of hate or potentially convert those loyal followers of Clarkson, Hammond, and May. We at Shifting Lanes will reserve our judgement for now as the new extended trailer shows a lot of promise and excitement, but there are glimpses of awkwardness and stiffly forced chemistry that tempers our expectations. We’ll just have to see come May 29th.
