Well it’s finally happened. DriveTribe is no more as a standalone website and app. If you’ve ever been there or if you were a creator there, it’s probably a bummer of a day.
Trust me, I know exactly how you feel. Shifting Lanes joined DT only 3 months after its creation and I personally was the USA Content director for the site for 3 years.
That’s why we’re hoping to have as many of you as possible here creating content on Shifting Lanes. You may have seen my article on DriveTribe before it shut down about coming here to create and that invitation is still open! Any one that wanted to create on DT can create here as well.
We’ve made a bunch of changes to the site since we ditched it in 2017 to be a part of the DT creators program. We still have some work to do, but we’ll be updating and upgrading the site every day to make it an enjoyable place to come congregate and be a community once again.
Here’s how we’re going to do that.
Make Shifting Lanes easy to access
Right now SL is still set up as a traditional media site. You’ve probably heard or gathered that we need to manually add you all to the site. While this is true, it’s only a short term solution. In the next 1-2 weeks we’ll be installing and upgrading a social log in feature where you can log in with your FB, Google, WordPress, and other social accounts.
Once we have established this, we will also install and activate a social network side of the site allowing you to create a personal profile on the site itself, not just for WordPress. This will also give you the ability to create and join communities based on likes and shared interests.
Sort of how Tribes worked, but we’ll limit the amount of communities so that there are not thousands of dead ones like there were Tribes on DT.
Once this is all in place, we’ll be able to function much like DT did, but not being DT exactly.
Why are we not trying to be exactly like DriveTribe?
It’s a great question with a simple answer: because we’re not DriveTribe. DT was it’s own thing and should live on in your downloaded content and our memories. To just try an replicate DT, while a noble though, in our eyes, is just a step backwards.
We should be driving forwards without own brand, our own community, and YOUR enthusiasm as a community. Yes we’re all DriveTribers for now, but I want us to all be Shifters into the future.
What’s the best way to support this whole move to SL?
Just be here, write content, and comment on everyone’s posts. That’s the best way to help right now.
Once we get everything in place, then make this you central hub for car content and community. Make us your home page! We want to bring you the best that DT had to offer while continuing to evolve into a site that’s not only for you, but built BY you.
Want something done, voice it and hopefully we can make it happen.
I thank you ALL for your support over the past few weeks and I hope to see you on the site!
