This weekend rounds 5 and 6 of the Fanatec GT World Challenge powered by AWS took place at Virginia International Raceway, VIR, and for the Acura’s it was a wild ride.
RealTime Racing and their Acura NSX GT3 Evo22, driven by Michael Cooper and Erin Vogel, started Saturday’s race in 12th position. Solid driving and making moves had them moving up the leaderboard and they finished 5th in Pro/Am.
Acura teammates Mario Farnbacher and Ashton Harrison didn’t have quite as good luck. Ashton had worked her way from 5th to 2nd in Pro/Am within the first lap, but two back to back collisions ended up taking them out of the race. They were about to repair their NSX GT3 Evo22 overnight with parts sourced from nearby, North Carolina, home of their Acura teammates Rick Ware Racing.
Sunday’s race wasn’t anything to write home about for Cooper and Vogel, their race ended prematurely when Cooper was involved in a collision with Madison Snow.
Farnbacher and Harrison saw more success on Sunday than Saturday . They started on the pole, leading almost the entirety of the race. With five minutes left in the race they had an off track excursion that dropped Harrison to 7th, but she fought valiantly and finished the race in 5th.
The Fanatec GT World Challenge powered by AWS next hits the track on July 22nd – 24th for rounds 7 and 8 which will take place at Watkins Glen International in New York.
