Mecum Indy 2023 auction brings in $113 million in sales

Recently Mecum returned to Indianapolis for their annual flagship classic and collector car auction and for the second year in a row, achieved and overall sales total of over $100 million, bringing in $113 million with a sell through rate of 76%. This is the second highest total reached in the 36 year history of the event.

In the months leading up to this event, quite a bit of promotion took place for the headlining vehicles, the 1970 Plymouth Cuda 440 Rapid Transit Show Car and the 1970 Dodge Hemi Challenger R/T SE ‘The Black Ghost’ and it paid off. When they crossed the block the energy in the room was palpable. Bidders and spectators both in the venue and at home, sat on the edge of their seats waiting to see the action unfold and they were not disappointed when both went for well over $1 million and topped the Top 10 Collector Car Sales list.

The top assemblages included the Hustle for the Muscle No Reserve Collection with 61 vehicles selling for $8.66 million, The Apex Collection which had 24 of its vehicles sell for $4.23 million, The Clyde Horst Collection of 14 cars that sold in it’s entirety for $2.04 million and The Chris Bishop Collection of 24 cars that has a 100% sell through rate and brought in $2.49 million.
