We might be coming to the end of the year, but we are inching closer and closer to the start of the 2025 IMSA season. Test sessions and driver announcements are popping up throughout the paddock and Acura Meyer Shank Racing (Acura MSR) have joined the ranks by announcing their IMSA Endurance lineup.
Joining their Michelin Endurance Cup and Rolex 24 roster are Felix Rosenqvist, Scott Dixon and Alex Palou.
President, Honda Racing Corporation, USA, David Salters, had this to say about the announcement, “Including IndyCar winners and champions; Rolex 24. and Le Mans veterans, this is an outstanding lineup put together by HRC and Acura Meyer Shank Racing for our Acura ARX-06s in IMSA’s Michelin Endurance Cup program for 2025. Along with our four full-season drivers, this is a lineup of proven champions and winner all. Everyone at HRC US is excited for the start of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, and the new challenges it will present for the men and women at both MSR and HRC. Bring on 2025, we can’t wait!”
The No. 60 Acura MSR Acura ARX-06 will be piloted by 2023 Rolex 24 winners and full season Acura MSR drivers Tom Blomqvist and Colin Braun. Joining them will be four time Rolex 24 winner Scott Dixon and MSR IndyCar driver Felix Rosenqvist. Dixon for the full endurance schedule and Rosenqvist for the Rolex 24.
“It’s a dream come true for me to race at the Rolex and in the top category. It’s a very natural fit as I’m racing for the same team and manufacturer as my ‘daytime job’ and I know all my teammates really well,” Felix said. “It’s a big project and I’m doing my best to be as prepared as possible! I’m looking forward to getting going in January!” This will be Felix’s fourth entry into the twice-round-the-clock event and he’s targeting his first victory.
Meanwhile, the No. 93 Acura MSR Acura ARX-06, with full season drivers Renger van der Zande and Nick Yelloly, is adding Alex Palou as their endurance driver.
Alex is coming off of back to back IndyCar championships and while he has two Rolex 24 entries under his belt, he’s looking to improve on his previous 7th and 10th place finishes. “I’m super excited about the opportunity to join MSR and HRC for the IMSA endurance races next year. It will be pretty cool to work with some of the drivers that I know very well and to see what we can do at the Rolex in January. I have to thank Mike and HRC for this opportunity and I’m ready to get going in Daytona!”
Not only does this lineup deliver experience, but pace as well. The current Acura MSR drivers have a combined 11 Rolex 24 Hour at Daytona victories, 11 IMSA GTP class wins and 17 IMSA GTP podium finishes since 2023.
Scott Dixon alone has been competing in sportscar endurance competition for 25 years. He rounded out the 2024 season and his 50th sportscar race with an overall win at last months Motul Petit Le Mans with his co-driver Acura MSR’s Renger van der Zande.
“I’m really looking forward to running the Rolex this year. I have almost joined Meyer Shank Racing and Mike a couple times in the past, but it didn’t work out. I’m really excited to join Acura MSR and their partnership with HRC makes it easier, there are a lot of familiar faces and people that I have worked with over the years. That’s also true on the Meyer Shank side as well with a lot of people I have worked with earlier in my career. A lot of familiar faces on the driver side too with Felix, Tom, Colin and obviously I was teammates last year with Renger, so I’m really looking forward to that side of it.
“Goal number one is just to win and hopefully we can do that out of the gate at Daytona. It’s a fun race and I love doing the endurance races. I’m really excited to get going and from what I’ve seen so far it’s quite the outfit and excited with what Acura has done.”
The Acura Meyer Shank Racing team will have their first official test at Daytona International Speedway this weekend, November 15th – 17th, to prepare for the Rolex 24.
Co-Owner, Acura Meyer Shank Racing, Mike Shank, had this to say about their driver lineup, “It’s really great to see how our IMSA lineup has come together and I think we have some really talented drivers with us this year. Of course, it just made sense for Felix to join us at the 24. He’s really proved himself on the IndyCar side of things and I think he can be a big asset to us in IMSA. It’s a no-brainer that Scott knows what he’s doing in the IMSA endurance events and it’s really cool to finally have in come onboard after all these years. Alex is another one who knows what it takes in the GTP category and of course he’s coming off of a big high in IndyCar. I’m excited to see where we shake out in the test this weekend; I think we’re all ready to get going.”
Acura MSR will announce their final addition to the No. 93 lineup for the Rolex 24 in the coming weeks.
