Today is an exciting day for Toyota GAZOO Racing North America and the GR Cup Series, as they’ve announced the addition of the Legends Cup presented by WWEX Group.
The Legends Cup has been designed exclusively for driver 45 years and older and will be featured within the GR Cup Series at select events during the 2025 season. This offers seasoned drivers a unique platform to compete at some of the most iconic tracks in the United States.
The WWEX Group Legends Cup will be a six race competition held at Circuit of the Americas, Road America and Indianapolis Motor Speedway during the 45 minute GR Cup series races. Those competing in the Legends Cup will race for podium honors with the top three finishers in each event being recognized on a Legend specific podium and the driver with the highest cumulative points across all Legends Cup events will be crowned the inaugural WWEX Group Legends Group Cup Champion.
Mike Norem, Manager of Customer Racing, TGRNA, had this to say about the series, “The Legends Cup is an exciting opportunity to recognize the experience and passion that these racers bring to the track. With the support of the WWEX Group, we’re proud to provide a competitive platform that showcases these drivers and adds another exciting element to the GR Cup Series.”
In addition to Legends Cup competition, the WWEX Group will further incentivize top level competition among experienced drivers by awarding a bonus of $5,000 to the Highest Finishing Legend driver at each of the 14 GR Cup races in 2025. At the end of the season the Legend driver with the highest cumulative pointed will become the WWEX Group Fastest Legend and be awarded an additional $5,000. In total, $75,000 is up for grabs for the Legends drivers.
With the introduction of the Legends Cup, TGRNA’s hope is to highlight their continued commitment to providing competitive opportunities to drivers of all backgrounds while celebrating the drive and talent of motorsports enthusiasts at all stages of their racing careers.
